Western Branch Diesel’s Power Generation Division, in cooperation with Power System Inc, Ewing Associates & Tanks Direct, recently finished a long term power generation project for the Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands.
Located in Washington DC, the Kingdom of the Netherland’s Embassy houses a Citrix server data center which feeds critical operational data to 12 embassies throughout North & South America. It was our job to design and implement a redundant power system for the Embassy, built around two 180 kW MTU Onsite Engergy diesel generator sets.
The system is designed for the Embassy to have a reliable, redundant power backup (if one generator fails, the other generator kicks on), and included a number of additional specifications. These requirements included upgrading the fuel monitoring system of their existing 5,000 gallon fuel tank, as well as the integration of a two-in-one Zenith automatic transfer switch, which provides failure sensing and test mode rotation for both gensets. Another unique challenge was posed by the site’s location in a residential part of the District of Columbia – the property line required additional sound attenuation, which was solved by the installation of Crystal Quiet Enclosures.
Overall, this was a long-term, mission critical project that we were honored to take part in, and would like to once again thank all of our partners and personnel who helped it become a reality.
